❝There, The Guardian had a caption for a photo in one of their articles about this that said, The FIFA president carefully explains to Donald Trump that he is not a part of the Spanish nation's team.

❝And here's the irony: the person who has attempted to do exactly that over and over again for nearly six years, and most dramatically on Thursday night, is Donald Trump, who, against the very evidence that he himself presented, tried to tell millions of Americans that foreign powers had corrupted an election, specifically the one election he lost. Imagine for a second you were accused of murder.

❝I believe that the biggest problem in America is in Washington, D.C. with the federal government is not the oligarchy. It's the closetocracy, as I call it.

❝It's like our country has to live with the midlife crises of men whose fathers didn't love them enough or who, you know, are so deeply insecure that they have to take it out in these bullying, cruel ways.

❝So Trump's war is now a pointless war.

❝And of course, because Trump has never met a sex pest he doesn't like, he's never met somebody who assaults women that he won't defend.

❝On Thursday night, Donald Trump delivered a speech of about half an hour in the White House broadcast to the nation in which he made several unsubstantiated claims, but one of them was about China interfering in the 2020 election.

❝If I was on Putin's team, and Putin's under the gun, as you and I both know, because of the fight with Ukraine, but if I was on Putin's team, I'd be like, well, this guy is doing all of our bidding.

❝But, Caddy, this is such a stretch to call this terrorist activity. I mean, this is just the insanity of the Trump administration in terms of just flipping over the Apple card of normalcy, flipping over the Apple card of process, and doing exactly what you said.

❝Donald Trump is fearing for his life and also has been forced to admit late last night that he will not be using Qatari Air Force One for the foreseeable future, at least one month until it is maxed out with some defense capabilities because Trump fears that Iran is trying to kill him. Iran has been putting up billboards throughout their country that look like this.

❝Now, if you just take a look also, oh, and by the way, I mean, if you look at what's happening on the map, the U.S. is deploying additional F-16, F-35 fighter jets, along with aerial refueling tankers to the Middle East.

❝No, what Iran realizes is that the Iron Dome, as it’s been called, yes, there’s an Iron Dome in Israel, but it does seem like Trump and Netanyahu and U.S. and Israel have really created an iron dome in the region to actually protect Israel and to use the other Arab nations and the U.S.

❝We've got a guy in the White House who every day does and says a hundred crazy, stupid, dishonest, outrageous, corrupt, illegal, lawless, un-American, anti-democratic things.

❝The Republican Party is an existential threat to democracy, the Constitution, the rule of law, pluralism, basic human decency. It is an utterly un-American political party.

❝If Dems keep saying crazy shit and pushing crazy ideas…like allow people in this country illegally to vote in federal elections…if Democrats keep this up, then MAGA will keep winning.

❝And conservative influencer that has their own influencer firm told me that they got outreach from camps representing both the anti-Odyssey and the pro-Odyssey perspective, wanting to pay them for an influence campaign.

❝It's like, that's how bad it's gotten that they almost keep you locked out of clean water in this country. Yeah.

❝They won't handle the lie. That lie is unfair. And when they're not told the truth, it's unfair that they have to suck up the consequences of that lie.

❝That night, protesters saw him as a threat, but his dad, who taught him what it means to be black in America, says his son was there for the cause. To be honest, if the man did not have my son back, I wouldn't teach my son black history because I want to have him back right now. That's me, but black history.

❝It is no doubt the two major parties don't want open primaries. They don't want independents voting in it. They do everything they can to stop it.

❝It's that the Democratic Party establishment campaigned against this like it was an existential threat.

❝Ultimately, what you're trying to sell is: hey, your rights are being violated. And that's the fact, right? The rights of more than a third of the country's voters are not fully available to them because of various rules that either the states or the two parties have created to marginalize this group of Americans.

❝And in your announcement, you said, across the country, we are watching coordinated efforts to weaken voting rights, dilute black representation, and bend the rules of democracy for partisan gain. At the very moment when core protections of the Voting Rights Act have been gutted and the right to fair representation is under assault. Until we have national redistricting reform, Maryland will not be caught flat-footed.

❝I use how he used the pardon power to pardon these people on January 6th.

❝But it's not nationalism is, I care about me, my family, and my kids. Patriotism to me is like, I care about your kids. I want your kids to be successful. I also want your kids to be able to go to school.

❝I call myself a Democratic Socialist because I actually believe in this sort of more radical vision of a society without capitalism.

❝We’re anti-capitalist. We want a world beyond capitalism.

❝Isn't the problem just you have to figure out how to raise people's taxes? I think that any welfare state will require greater degrees of taxes that won't just come from taxing billionaires.

❝I think the tax is absolutely just, and here’s why. The best research that exists about billionaires, this tiny numerical group of people, is they pay substantially lower effective rates of taxes than the vast majority of the population.

❝It's because on July 4th of last year, President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful bill, which took $1 trillion out of the American health care system, particularly the Medicaid program, which is the largest health insurance program in America, much bigger than Medicare.

❝Governor Newsom, for whatever reason, and I think it's a mistake, it's more important to him to defend the billionaires than to solve the health care problem that we think he should be focused on.

❝And here it is. Yes, our elections will be free and fair. They will be held on schedule, on time.

❝You know, it's so important to emphasize this point about the hacking of the mind as opposed to the hacking of a voting machine and trying to cast out, as you said, on the sanctity of our election system or to make people feel like their vote doesn't count so they won't go vote.

❝We’ve kind of gone from strategic failing to strategic flailing at this point.

❝In a poverty-free world, the only place you would be able to see poverty is in the poverty museums.

❝Build businesses to help people lift themselves out of poverty. Instead, these kinds of loans can end up further entrenching people in low-income situations.

❝Maybe debt isn't the best way to help people get out of poverty.

❝ I mean, it is amazing to know how much damage these communists can do to industries in a state. You can drive people out of California.

❝ So we have the Indians paying off the top Democrats to outlaw the gambling halls.

❝ But they give the top Democrats tons of money.

❝So, stop fucking taking money and stop giving money until I don't know something happens to change it.

❝I just want to be able to support a candidate that's America first, us first, and then not Israeli. And I want to support a candidate that's not fueling what's happening over there.

❝There's no doubt whoever the next Democrat is is going to have to talk about reevaluating America's relationship with Israel.

❝The fact that he knew that this particular woman was interviewed by the New York Times and still went on Chris Hayes and other platforms and insisted that nothing else was coming is unconscionable because he knew that she was one of the women that was identified. Plattner and perhaps the campaign itself has violated the trust of many supporters.

❝But hanging your movement on the coattails of somebody credibly accused of sexual assault is the exact thing we are trying to be better than. Let's go to the next one.

❝And the six-day majority overturned that. It's a direct overturning of a decision that's only 25 years old.

❝And I'm trying to be helpful because I actually believe that these local currencies could be incredibly important in an era where AI is going to suck more and more of the value out of a lot of enterprises and people's labor.

❝But when we say money is fiat, we absolve ourselves of the responsibility of understanding how it works.

❝No, dude, we know it's way too expensive to be poor in this country. And check cashing is one example of it. But there are a lot of others.

❝The realization they're having, this creeping, slow realization that they're having, is that being with Trump now has become political poison.

❝Trump literally walked out and said the words, nobody gives a fuck about housing. Thank you for the ad, Donald.

❝And Democrats, with respect, we have to recognize we cannot continue to do what we've done and expect a different result. So democratizing the economy seems to me the same fight as saving our democracy.

❝We've allowed ourselves to be fooled so many times that we have seen the greatest con. People are sicker, hungrier, poorer than they were before.

❝But my contention here is that by conferring goodwill to the other side in hopes that they will reciprocate, it's a fool's errand at this point.

❝I mean, here's the thing: what's interesting about her victory than Claire Valdez in the so-called Comedy Corridor in Brooklyn and Queens is that their biggest support came from gentrifiers, right? I mean, came from people who were overeducated or highly educated, white, I shouldn't say, maybe they were overeducated too, but white residents of these districts.

❝I mean, Mamdani won 50% of the vote against an extremely flawed candidate in the anti-moment. It's not really an impressive win.

❝If you want to blame anybody, Jonathan, I think you have to blame Benjamin Netanyahu...That you're going to be able to brutalize children and women in Gaza with bombing that looks indiscriminate on TV day in and day out for years.

❝In a rally for his three House candidates last week, New York's socialist mayor Zoran Mamdani said, people often ask me what I think of the state of the Democratic Party. This slate here today is our answer. The Democratic Party must change.

❝But it seems to me, Joe, that part of what the Democratic Party has lost is a center that stands for something on its own, that can say, no, we don't like Medicare for All because, you know, we still believe in the market system. We still understand that that is a better way, a more effective, a more efficient way of routing prices and goods than trying to have a government body that is doing that sorts of stuff.

❝Republicans, I can imagine, even far from New York, are going to be playing that clip of Chevalier talking about how all deportations are wrong. From Sea to Shining Sea, I expect they want voters to hear that message from a future Democratic congresswoman.

❝We pay twice as much for health care as any other industrialized country, and we've got the worst health care outcomes.

❝I mean, the person who doesn't go to college is now going to subsidize the person who's going to make a lot more money because they did go to college. It doesn't seem actually like a progressive thing to do.

❝Well, look, I think that we need to, I'm for investing in police. I'm for having public safety. I don't think the answer to crime should be everyone takes justice into their own hands.

❝But then with Kennedy's assassination and Johnson's inauguration, amid the intensification of Confrontasi, Sukarno announces that 1965 would be, quote, the year of living dangerously.

❝Suharto's long dictatorship inaugurated with a mass anti-communist genocide.

❝But overall, the control tracer is a failed project because some of the actually it weakened Indonesia economically, it creates an economic crisis, and then most importantly, I think that it creates a room for the leftist, especially inside the military, that this is time, this is the dangerous time. So, who have to move first? And then the last, I think, the Muslims, and then they create a trap for themselves. Then, we have 65, the failed attempted coup inside the army, which then the army blames it to the communists.

❝The United States faces a dire threat to its democracy. And the tip of the spear is Donald Trump and a strongman presidency.

❝That was, in my view, the most dangerous decision the Supreme Court has been made, vis-a-vis democracy, in its entire history.

❝You know, if you think about the EPA, for example, do Republicans want the EPA to be more effective at carrying out its legal mandate? Absolutely not.

❝The goal is to treat the sickest people first who are who may die sooner. And that's the point of the ER: is it we don't want you to die today, um, we are hoping to intervene to stop that from happening.

❝When he says he's going to tax big corporations and the billionaires who own them, he means it.

❝I don't think there's any way of changing their minds and no.

❝He's willing to go up to $500 million for Los Angeles.

❝In a letter to election officials, Newsom says, quote, the longer the voting count takes, the more mis and disinformation spreads.

❝I was really excited and looking forward to celebrating my birthday. And I don't know, there's not, I don't want to say there's not much to celebrate, but it's just, it almost feels more inhuman to myself to create this illusion that I can have a normal day or a fun day when every day there's work to do.

❝She says her employer gave her a choice. They also told me that if I were to get detained and I couldn't contact my job, it would be considered job abandonment.

❝We are focused on bringing all those students up to grade level so they're ready to succeed the next year. And then one of our large focuses for this summer is making sure our high school students have their credits earned and ready to graduate and walk across that stage and toss that hassle across the front.

❝We're partnering with the Indian Ed Office along with our Office of Black Student Achievement and OLA, our Latin Achievement Program, really targeting specific groups of students and making sure that they're welcomed, have a safe place to work, and be able to maybe have some incentives that could include maybe some very healthy snacks and hopefully even some field trips that'll celebrate all the learning that they have.

❝Supreme Court put another nail in the coffin of the Voting Rights Act. That's the 1965 law, often called the crown jewel of the civil rights era. The conservative majority essentially eviscerated the remaining parts of the law, guaranteeing fair representation regardless of race.

❝And what he says, therefore, is because of that, we don't want race discrimination cases like this, the Section 2 cases, to interfere with that full-blown politics.

❝And when Justice Jackson, in this most recent order that came from the court allowing Louisiana to move forward, said you are introducing chaos into the system, she's absolutely right.

❝And to get them to agree to stop doing that requires some kind of compromise, right? And currently the Trump administration does not seem interested in compromise.

❝So the whole exercise is flagrantly unconstitutional. And Congress cannot authorize unconstitutional action by abdication.

❝But if you don't like the taste of your meal or if it's not cooked to your liking, that is most likely nothing to do with the server. That is something, a failure that happened in the kitchen.

❝And over the last 40 years, we've basically gone to this completely upside-down world where capital extracts all of the upside. And labor has extracted less and less and less and less. And all of this pushback, it manifests in AI, it manifests in politics, it manifests in social issues, it manifests in Israel. Whatever you want to talk about, all of these issues, I think symptomologically, come from this other issue, which is we are out of balance.

❝I think if I had to be a betting man, I think probably 30 to 40% of the federal budget is leaked out. Just for shitty code? No, meaning like all of the rules and like you can take, I'm not saying that there isn't fraud.

❝The only way that you will truly be successful is if you are righteous and you live according to your nature and you play, man, and you don't let people take play away from you to be at the circus and be oohed and all and worried about all the bullshit, return to a state of play.

❝Yeah, so what they have in the bill that's on the Senate floor today is a ban on the sale of assault weapons. So it stops new weapons that aren't already in our community from entering.

❝And this is not going to do anything to stop the criminals who are already ignoring Minnesota's gun laws.

❝Every time I get in the car, I know that NPR News will be there for me with genuine, important news.

❝Well, you know, I think unfortunately, the only thing we’ve heard of substance about affordability is whether or not you keep the gas tax, right? So, it hasn't been, I think, largely addressed.

❝I believe in the gas tax because it is necessary in order for our roads to continue to be built. However, we have this dichotomy of people who can actually afford electric vehicles not paying as much for the tax on our roads as people who are forced into gas-powered cars and actually have to drive further.

❝I think we're witnessing the collapse of the dollar.

❝During the Trump administration's deportation campaign in Chicago last fall, immigration agents took away a mother on the Southwest Side. Her three children were all U.S. citizens. They were left to fend for themselves.

❝Isabel had been working as a paralegal, so she knew the kids were vulnerable while their mother was detained. It was only a matter of time before someone called the state to put them in a shelter. They could be split apart.

❝After protecting them for so long, I wanted to just keep being with them all the time, but I knew that it was just the way of things and the way of love. She had to let them go.

❝Maybe I'll start with the bottom line, which is this case is in some ways the third in a trio that in Elena Kagan's words represented this particular one did the latest chapter in the majority's now completed demolition of the Voting Rights Act.

❝The VRA, quote, was born of the literal blood of union soldiers and civil rights marchers. It ushered in awe-inspiring change, bringing this nation closer to fulfilling the ideals of democracy and racial equality. And it has been repeatedly and overwhelmingly reauthorized by the people's representatives in Congress.

❝But because of that kind of confusing commingling that we have been talking about, the judge basically said, I am concerned that this lawsuit doesn't have something that lawsuits have to have, which is adversity, which is there have to be two parties or at least two parties that don't agree on something that are adverse to each other.

❝And he knows with a scientist's precision and a lover's fury what it means that more than two-thirds of America's historic trail network, much of it right here in California, has quietly disappeared. Not from fire, not from flood, from neglect, from privatization, from a government that made a promise about these lands and then stopped keeping it.

❝Forest Service regularly requests an allocation from Congress above $200 million for their trails program. And every year for about the last 20 years, they have just been allocated a standing, non-increasing budget of 80 million. So one-third or less of what they're looking for.

❝I line it up right along aspects of banning books or banning medical care or any of these other public goods that have made us such a beautiful nation of diverse cultures and voices.

❝Initially, President George W.W. Bush at the beginning of the Iraq war, for example, he actually fired his economic advisor, Larry Lindsay, for predicting that the Iraq war might cost $200 billion at the time. And of course, in the end, it will cost $5 trillion or more.

❝And I think that we need to see definitely countries doing more to stop some of these very harmful, clear abuses. We also need to see technology companies being more responsible about stopping the spread of these kind of images when they are created.

❝There are more, almost twice as many lobbyists in Congress for the weapons manufacturers than there are members of Congress. So, you know, congressional staff members have told me they meet with these lobbyists almost every day.

❝I mean, it was in some ways really coincidental because we had launched the effort to pass the TEACH Act before COVID hit, before the rise in anti-Asian racism, before the Atlanta spa shootings...You know, we saw the need for addressing the root causes of anti-Asian racism, and education was such a perfect place to start...

❝She says, you know, teaching history without AAPI contributions and perspectives, it's providing only part of the picture. And we can't call it history if we're leaving out important parts. And AAPI stories are a hugely important part of the history.

❝And the decision that was made today by SCOTUS about the Voting Rights Act is an attack on minorities across this country.

❝Well, there's a big discrepancy from what you're hearing in a lot of news media outlets and what's really happening in Iran in terms of the disconnect between the people and the government.

❝But from what we can tell from Iranian people, they’re really fed up with this regime.

❝So the challenging part is this. Like somebody in RRGC that has been motivating everyone in their system by saying death to America every day cannot make a deal with America after they killed the leader. Or he cannot even in general make a deal with America. It’s going to be very hard because their staff will kill them.

❝I was like, you were sitting right there for the entire meeting, Mr. Mayor. You were right there for an entire meeting.

❝A lot of Star Tribune commentaries have been written about your lack of focus. You're just a bunch of silly people who are just constantly fighting and proposing the most ridiculous things.

❝I feel like it's a concerted effort to like marginalize the legislative branch in the city of Minneapolis, which I think is really short-sighted. And we're going to regret it if we let it happen.

❝I am excited to be running for Covina City Council District 5. I am here to make Covina more affordable for working families, ensure there's transparency in regards to our City Council and administration, as well as providing holistic safety to the residents of Covina.

❝And so, regardless if somebody is Republican or Democrat or Independent, no matter what their party affiliation, all of this impacts somebody. And so all of us are at the whim, oftentimes, of when it comes to billionaires, such as those who own RWE.

❝So, one of the reasons this podcast exists, which is sort of unique in the streets blog world, and one of the things that we pitch to the folks that help fund it at Foothill Transit is that a lot of what goes on at streets, blogs, and similar sites is always focused on the really big cities, the Los Angeles, the San Francisco, the New Yorks of the world. But there's a lot of cool things happening in the San Gabriel Valley and small cities, and we feel like if we could get some of those stories out to our larger, our larger network, it might inspire people in other cities.
